Buck quotes from Saturday morning

Just a few quotes from Buck this morning so far...

Count the number of releases you can score on a horse. Some people ride around for hours without releasing.'

'If you want your horse to be accurate, it's a game of inches not yards'

'When the horse is relearning, there will be an ebb and flow. Things will get better and worse in a session.'

On jumping: 'You need to be able to shorten and lengthen. If you can't stop a horse in a 100 acre pasture, you won't be able to do this. They have to be adjustable.'

Learning from Buck Brannaman
17-06-09_Buck_B.jpg

Buck Brannaman is currently in the UK imparting his knowledge on training and riding horses. His message today is really about teaching the horse not to lean or brace on the reins, although this brace obviously usually shows up during groundwork, which is why we spend time working on this. His first take away quote was 'Pulling on two reins doesn't fix anything'. Most people who have studied the more natural trainers will have heard this before. We only ever activate one rein at a time.
